Events and VE Sessions

Field Day - Date: June 24th, 2023

Florida Parishes VE Group - Testing sessions are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month [with the exception of holiday conflicts] at AmVets Post #68; 26890 Hwy 42 (jct. of Hwys 42 and 43) - Springfield, La. 70462 (approximately 3 miles south of I-12 at exit 32) at 2pm with $15 testing fee. Bring photo ID and any appropriate CSCE. For more information contact [email protected] or Find an Amateur Radio License Exam in Your Area.

  • Had 30 last night. Last 6 weeks between 25-30

Hamfest Committee: Tyrone Burns (N5XES)

  • Ponchatoula Community Center
    • Called Lynnette and provided her the date of the next hamfest being January 19-20, 2024. She has not received the calendar for the center yet.
    • Start kicking off activities in June

Repeater Committee: Tyrone Burns (N5XES) & Russ Plyler (WI5ARD)

  • Tickfaw
    • Waiting to see when the grounding is down at the tower.
    • Next Steps
      • Insulation is on location and needs to be installed on the ceiling.
      • Wall outlets have exposed wiring and burnt plugs that need to be corrected.
      • Power distribution in the cabinet.
      • End of July for 110 power within the building.
  • Hammond
    • Tyrone programmed the 6 meter repeater of Pete’s. Waiting to see when to install.
    • Next Steps
      • Power distribution in the cabinet.

Old Business:

  • Waiting on Ed to bring the TNC back. :) Can someone drive by Amite and pick it up.

Field Day: Mark Lacey (WX5RN)

  • Date: June 24th and 25th, 2023
  • Lynnette was contacted with the community center and will check to make sure there are no conflicts.
  • WB5NET vs. WM5T
  • Antenna and Radio checks for hamfest on Thursday the 11th or 18th. Start time of 8am till Something
  • Thursday the 18th Tyrone, Mike, Dean, Mark with a start for 8am

Training

  • Next meeting possibly to cover back-up power by Dean. (May)
  • Packet presentation by Ed (June)

See you at the Meeting!

SELARC is proud to have partnered with Southeastern Louisiana University to serve the university and community for over 35 years. Through our association with the Tangipahoa parish Office of Homeland Security, Project LION and Southeastern radio station KSLU-FM we have been an active component in the communications plans for Homeland security and disaster management for local and regional events including severe weather incidents, train derailments, and evacuations. The amateur radio equipment located in the facilities of KSLU and the University EOC is an integral part of radio communications for campus emergency management.
