Events and VE Sessions

Florida Parishes VE Group - Testing sessions are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month [with the exception of holiday conflicts] at AmVets Post #68; 26890 Hwy 42 (jct. of Hwys 42 and 43) - Springfield, La. 70462 (approximately 3 miles south of I-12 at exit 32) at 2pm with $15 testing fee. Bring photo ID and any appropriate CSCE. For more information contact [email protected] or Find an Amateur Radio License Exam in Your Area.

    • Waiting to see when the grounding is down at the tower.
    • Future Steps
      • The Crescend Amplifier is in and ready to be installed.
      • Power distribution in the cabinet.
    • Cables came in for the amplifier.
    • Tyrone handed out a function sheet on command on the 147.000 repeater.
    • We need to check the A/C at Tickfaw.

    • Waiting on Pete to complete the work on the 6 meter repeater.
    • Future Steps
      • Install new Kenwood repeater donated by Pete Liuzza (WB5ERM). Output power set to 15 watts.
      • Duplexer needs to be tuned. Noticed more loss than desired.
      • Power distribution in the cabinet.
      • Cables came in for the amplifier.

    • HB-581 Environmental Quality, This one would have affected the releasing of balloons. Ham Radio was made exempt on the bill.
    • HB-608 Louisiana Atmospheric Protection Act, This would have provided serious restrictions on power on all devices generating RF. It ultimately failed by a vote of 21 to 72.
    • Club shirts and or hats for events. Paul W2XXX will inquire about cost.

SELARC is proud to have partnered with Southeastern Louisiana University to serve the university and community for over 35 years. Through our association with the Tangipahoa parish Office of Homeland Security, Project LION and Southeastern radio station KSLU-FM we have been an active component in the communications plans for Homeland security and disaster management for local and regional events including severe weather incidents, train derailments, and evacuations. The amateur radio equipment located in the facilities of KSLU and the University EOC is an integral part of radio communications for campus emergency management.
